Williamsport– Louis E.”Lou”Hunsinger, Sr., 86, of Williamsport {died|passed away} {at home|in your home|in the house} on Monday, December 14, 2020, surrounded by his {loving|caring} {family and friends|friends and family} after {an extended|a prolonged} {illness|disease|health problem}. He was born June 23, 1934 in Williamsport, {a son|a child|a kid|a boy} of the late Bruce H. and Helen (Hawk)Hunsinger. On {May|Might} 26, 1956, he {married|wed} Doris Nance, who {survives|makes it through|endures}. Lou {graduated|finished} from Williamsport High School, Class of 1952 and from the Williamsport Technical Institute in 1959 with a degree in {business|company|service|organization} management. He was honored by the Williamsport {Area|Location} {Community|Neighborhood} College as “Alumnus of the Year”in 1977. He served his {country|nation} honorably in the U.S. {Air Force|Flying Force} from 1953-57 and the Civil Air Patrol from

1949 to 1980. He {served as|functioned as|worked as|acted as} Squadron {Commander|Leader} of CAP Squadron 401 from 1966 to 1970, {before|prior to} being promoted to Group 40 {Staff|Personnel} and {later|later on} as a member of the Pennsylvania Wing {Staff|Personnel}. He retired with the rank of {major|significant}. He was {honored with|bestowed} Civil Air Patrol’s Meritorious Service Award in 1973 for his work {during|throughout} the {Hurricane|Typhoon|Cyclone} Agnes Flood of 1972. He {gave|provided|offered} a report at the Pentagon to Defense Department {officials|authorities} on the {local|regional} CAP squadron’s efforts {during|throughout} the 1972 flood and {showed|revealed} a slide {presentation|discussion} detailing that work. He was the {first|very first} CAP {official|authorities} ever to {give|provide|offer} a report at the Pentagon. He {sold|offered} life {insurance|insurance coverage} for {30 years|thirty years} with the Baltimore Life( Life of Maryland) {Company|Business}. of Williamsport from 1976 to 1996 and {again|once again} from 2002 through 2004, under Mayors Kirby, Lucasi, {Bloom|Flower|Blossom}

, Prezsiosi, Rafferty and Wolf. In connection with that, he served for {many years|several years} as a member of the Lycoming County {Emergency|Emergency Situation} {Preparedness|Readiness} Committee. He served on {many|numerous|lots of} public {spirited|perky} committees, the most {recent|current} being the {organizing|arranging} committee of the {annual|yearly} Grand Slam Parade and the Lycoming Brotherhood Alliance. He was honored by the Williamsport-Lycoming {Foundation|Structure} as one of it’s “{Men|Guy|Male} of the Year “in 1996. The next year, in 1997, he was honored by the {local|regional} chapter of the National Conference of

Christians and Jews as one its”{Citizens|People} of the Year.”Lou was a 73 year member of St. John’s -Newberry United Methodist Church, where he {helped|assisted} his {brother|sibling|bro}, {Skip|Avoid} when he {started|began} the {Senior Citizen|Senior|Elderly person}’s Lunch. He served at the {Community|Neighborhood} Arts Center as a greeter, {starting|beginning} in 1995, where he was {very|extremely|really} active with the”{Skip|Avoid} Hunsinger {Children|Kid}’s Christmas {Spectacular|Magnificent|Incredible|Amazing}.” Lou was as Life Member of the Old Lycoming Fire Volunteer Fire Co., where he {served as|functioned as|worked as|acted as} a Trustee for {several|a number of|numerous} years and as a Fire {Policeman|Cop|Police officer}. In the {aftermath|consequences|after-effects} of the {disastrous|devastating|dreadful} January 1996 flood, he

{helped|assisted} {coordinate|collaborate} flood clean-up efforts in Old Lycoming {Township|Town|Area|Municipality}. ; and {three|3} great-grandsons, Logan, Avery and Grayson; and {brother|sibling|bro} John Hunsinger, Montoursville.
