Sharlyn Spragg Sappington, 92, {passed away|died} on Sept. 4, 2020 at the {Neighborhoods|Communities|Areas} in Columbia.
She was born March 17, 1928 in Ridgeway to Earle Gordon Spragg and Ottoline Nancy Young.
She is {survived|made it through|endured} by her {husband|hubby|spouse|other half|partner}, William Roy Sappington, Jr. ({Bill|Expense|Costs}); {son|child|kid|boy}, William Brent Sappington (Nina); {daughter|child}, Nancy Sue Sappington; granddog, Bree; cousin, Marion Guffey; {nieces and nephews|nephews and nieces}: Michelle (Chris) George, Terry Moore, Steve Storm, Starla Steinmann, Stacia (Tim) Minton; and {best friend|buddy|friend}, Marciele Maledy.
Her {parents|moms and dads}; {sisters|siblings|sis}: Shirley Moore and Sheila Storm; and nephew, Stewart Storm preceded her in death.
Sharlyn was a graduate of David H. Hickman High School (1946) and was honored as St. Pat’s Queen. She was {also|likewise} a graduate of the University of Missouri (1950) with {a Bachelor of Science|a Bachelor’s Degree} in {Business|Company|Service|Organization} and {was a member of|belonged to} Gamma Phi Beta sorority.
She {married|wed} {Bill|Expense|Costs} on Aug. 7, 1948 and they {graduated|finished} together from MU. She was {a devoted|a dedicated} {wife|spouse|partner|other half|better half} and {mother|mom}, {spending|investing} her time as {a homemaker|a housewife} {until|up until|till} she went to work as {an auto|a car|an automobile|a vehicle} underwriter for Shelter {Insurance|Insurance coverage}, {formerly|previously} MFA {Insurance|Insurance coverage}. She shepherded her {children|kids} through Cub Scouts, {Girl|Woman|Lady} Scouts, {Boy|Young Boy|Kid} Scouts, and served {multiple|several|numerous} years on the PTA.
She and {Bill|Expense|Costs} retired together in 1990 from Shelter {Insurance|Insurance coverage} and {spent|invested} {an enjoyable|a pleasurable|a satisfying} retirement {giving back|returning} to the {community|neighborhood} and {traveling|taking a trip}. Sharlyn and {Bill|Expense|Costs} {also|likewise} enjoyed their {many years|several years} of Friday afternoon dates at the Pasta Factory, even being {featured|included} in a Pasta Factory {ad|advertisement} and {considered|thought about} {family|household} by the Pasta Factory owners and {staff|personnel}. She {kept track of|monitored|kept an eye on|tracked} {waiters and waitresses|waitresses and waiters}’ names in the back of her checkbook register.
Sharlyn honored her {parents|moms and dads} by {establishing|developing} with {Bill|Expense|Costs} the Earle G. and Ottoline N. Spragg Memorial Fund to {provide|offer|supply} scholarships for {students|trainees} {majoring in|learning} {finance|financing} at the MU College of {Business|Company|Service|Organization}. They were members of the Davenport Society, the Jefferson Club, and the {Legacy|Tradition} Society and {enjoyed|delighted in|taken pleasure in} {attending|going to|participating in} university {concerts|shows|performances} and other cultural {events|occasions}. She {was a member of|belonged to} the alumni association and a strong {supporter|advocate|fan} of MU {athletics|sports} and the St. Louis Cardinals. She and {Bill|Expense|Costs} had season tickets for {many years|several years} for MU football and {women|ladies|females}’s basketball and {attended|went to|participated in} {games|video games} {until|up until|till} {climbing|climbing up} stairs made it {difficult|challenging|tough|hard}. She kept in shape by {being a member of|belonging to} Wilson’s {Fitness Center|Gym}, which {contributed to|added to} her long life.
